Many non-fungible token (NFT) marketplaces are now upset with Apple’s 30% share as a result of its protracted fight with developers over its heavy take on the App Store.

The software giant has maintained its 30% price for in-app purchases on the App Store in spite of complaints and even antitrust litigation. The same cut has also been required of NFT companies that have apps available on the App Store, and many consider the cost to be unjustifiable.

Beyond the world of digital assets, the significant drop in in-app NFT sales has drawn criticism. Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, called it a “grotesquely overpriced in-app payment service.” After Apple removed Fortnite from the App Store, Sweeney sued the tech giant in court, but Apple ultimately prevailed.
